Oh, Cyress...lovely Cypress!
I had a vision of a horse named Cypress. I couldn't see what he looked like, but I knew what he'd BE like.
My friend Brandy and I were planning a trip to Burns, Oregon to adopt a couple Mustangs. We were thinking of all
the great things we could do with our mustangs. Mainly, we were looking for justifications for our horse addiction!
Brandy owns Cherry Creek Equestrian Center. CCEC for short. So we thought, "Hmmm, we should get 4 Mustangs, name
three of them with names that start with a C and one with an E. CCEC!" the name I chose for my Mustang was Cypress.
Cypress came into my life quite unexpected. We were in the process of looking for camp horses and Brandy came across
this mustang on Dreamhorse.com. She asked me if I'd come along for the ride to look at him. When we got there,
I thought nothing much of him. He was a little skittish and NOT what I would consider kids camp material. He wasn't
even saddle trained! So Brandy thought she'd offer a lease with option to buy at the end of the summer. She thought
she could put some training on him before camp started.
Well, on the way home, Brandy asked me if the chestnut horse in the trailer was maybe "Cypress"? I thought, "No,
the mustang I invisioned didn't look like the one in the trailer. I suppose I invisioned the black stallion or something!"
Ha! But the more I thought of it, the more I wondered why I chose the name Cypress. The horse in the trailer named
"Jigger" was a deep chestnut color. The same color as that of cypress wood. This horse was Cypress. My Cypress.
Cypress was a mess for a couple months. He was scared of EVERYTHING! He was rescued by the woman we got him
from. His rescue was not from the wild but from the couple that adopted him from the BLM. They had NO idea what
they were doing. He was starved and in bad shape. There was a buckskin mare with him also(more on that later!)
We had no idea what his past was. All we knew is he trusted NO ONE. He was scared of EVERYTHING.
I started loving on him and working with him on just the trust issue. He turned around almost instantly.
He is now the most loveable, curious, beautiful 4 year old mustang I've ever known. He is now big, shinny, healthy and
fat. So fat, he looks like he is going to give birth to a small tractor!
